Building a Hydrogen Production and Refueling Infrastructure

SHEP & CHRS

A robust hydrogen infrastructure is the key to transitioning to clean hydrogen. As hydrogen applications become more numerous, the availability of hydrogen EVERYWHERE becomes more of a necessity. In the chicken or the egg debate, where the chicken is hydrogen applications and the egg is hydrogen infrastructure, it is becoming more and more clear to the hydrogen application developers, that the egg comes first.

Even though it is a noble start, the proposed 6 - 10 hydrogen hubs throughout the US CANNOT be the basis for a robust hydrogen infrastructure. The transportation and distribution of the hydrogen will practically negate all of the "clean emission-free" benefits that hydrogen use brings. A realistic hydrogen infrastructure requires a more local production and distribution model in each region.

As can be seen from the map below, SHEP can be strategically located in virtually any part of the country be it in a rural or densely populated area. In the illustration, the “green dots” represent a regional geographic area for a SHEP installation.

Strategic SHEP Location Map

Upon closer examination, you can see the the area can be populated with a combination of SHEP and CHRS depending on the initial needs of the community. Because of the flexibility of both SHEP AND CHRS, they can be further deployed in the region to support any expanding needs for hydrogen.
